The 2025 Masters concluded on Sunday, April 13 with Rory McIlroy as the winner. Justin Rose was the runner up and it came down to the playoff hole. Since McIlroy won, he is the sixth person to ever have a Grand Slam in golf, which refers to winning all four major champions: The Masters, The PGA Championship, the U.S. Open, and The Open Championship (British Open). Rose received a grand total of 2.3 million dollars by coming in second in the Masters. Rory took home a total prize of 4.2 million dollars by winning the Masters. Senior Caroline Jordan attended the Master this year with her family and this is what she had to say about what the Masters mean to her.
“The Masters mean a lot to me. I’ve been going to them since I was eight years old with my grandfather,” Jordan said. “That makes the Masters even more special. He loves golf, and being able to share that with him has been great.”
Sophomore Will Willerson’s favorite golf tournament is the Masters for many reasons, but here is what he thinks that the most unique aspect of the tournament is.
“Something unique is that there has been the same traditions since the beginning of the Masters,” Willerson said. “Since the traditions have been the same this makes the Masters have such a country club feeling.”
The Masters are very strict about their “no phones” policy. Jordan tells us why she thinks this policy helps to make the Masters a better all around tournament.
“I think having no phones helps to make everyone be in the moment and enjoy the Masters while you are there,” Jordan said. “I also think that by not having your phone you are more invested in the Masters and are paying more attention.”
Willerson has a deep connection to McIlroy and explains why he wanted him to win the Masters.
“Of course I wanted Rory to win. He got me into golf and is my favorite golfer of all time,” Willerson said. “It had been 10 years and 246 days since his last major win. He completed the career grand slam and is only the 6th person to ever do it.”
This is Jordan’s perspective on why or why not she thought that McIlroy should win the Masters this year.
“Yes, I did want Rory McIlroy to win. McIlroy is an amazing example of someone who has perseverance,” Jordan said. “He has been one of my favorite players since I was little, so I’ve wanted him to win for a very long time.”
Willerson was asked why he thinks that the Masters has such a private and country club feel.
“The reason the Masters feel the way it does is because it hasn’t changed at all since the 70’s. They have the same tradition with the food, the same golf course and the same dress code. It’s also a place where people put everything to the side and just appreciate the game of golf, ” Willerson said. “It’s crazy when you go there; it feels like a different world for these reasons.“
