iPeriod: Service to School-Special Projects
This semester, new iPeriods were created that will allow students to serve the Darlington community while also receiving service hours. One of these iPeriods is Service to School-Special Projects.
“Students that are involved in multiple sports, musicals, and other after-school activities sometimes have a hard time finding community service opportunities throughout the school year,” Head of House Kim Bell said. “I thought this iPeriod would give those students an opportunity to earn service hours and also do projects on campus to help out the Darlington community.”
During this iPeriod, students will perform various service tasks for faculty around campus.
“Some projects that students will do during this iPeriod include organizing storage areas, inventorying the bookstore, writing blogs or taking pictures for the school website, writing letters to prospective students, rearranging books in the library, helping coaches organize and inventory sport equipment and more,” Bell said.
Apart from being a chance to earn service hours, Bell sees this iPeriod as a way for students to learn the importance of giving back to the community.
“I hope that students will see that large projects can be accomplished surprisingly quickly with a little teamwork and that serving your community can start with those closest to you,” Bell said. “In this case, right here on our own school grounds.”
