Christmas Preview

With the break approaching and the stress of exams happening, Darlington has a variety of events to get students and the community into the holiday spirit.

The season started off with a festive Traditions of Christmas concert in the Morris Chapel, featuring the choirs, orchestra and bands.

“This year there will be performances from the Ladies Chorale, Concert Choir, Darlingtones, Random Notes and Concert Band,” Choir Director Ben McVety said.

This event has been in the works since the middle of October, nearly two months of hard work and dedication goes into this show.

“Traditions of Christmas is a holiday concert for the choral and instrumental programs at the upper school. For many years since the mid-nineties the event traditionally took place on a Sunday afternoon and featured just the choir program,” Fine Arts director Kim Tunnell said.

Another event that will be happening this Sunday by the lake and Morris Chapel is Lessons and Carols.

“Lessons and Carols is Darlington’s oldest and longest standing one-school event. This service has become a wonderful tradition at Darlington that involves students of all ages,” Dean of College Guidance Sam Moss said.

This event will feature all grades and showcase their artistic talents. It features Christmas classics from the choir as well as the orchestra.

“New faces and new voices bring energy and excitement to this service each year, making it a truly cherished holiday tradition to our Darlington friends and family,” Tunnell said.

Some of the houses like Cooper and Regester have had parties and activities to get into the holiday spirit. The Big-Little sister group is also having an christmas party which involves all of the dorms.

Also, Thatcher Hall had a school wide event where they spent hours decorating the school for Christmas and had treats and put up wreaths, christmas trees, and decorated classrooms.

In the Upper School, there is a coffee house, which will feature hot chocolate, christmas music, and snacks.
