RUMPUS 2016 events no longer planned by prefects, faculty takes charge

The organization of RUMPUS 2016’s activities are about to see a major change.

“Instead of having the prefects plan and facilitate all the RUMPUS activities, we are going to use faculty members,” said John Zazzaro, Head of Neville House. “For too many years, the prefects have been feeling the brunt of planning all these activities [and also] trying to organize their houses to get ready for RUMPUS. We felt that it was really just undue strain on them and created really tense relationships, at times.”

The new organization has specific benefits for the students involved.

“[Groups of] different faculty members… will actually plan, and facilitate, and judge…, and I think it will make for a better RUMPUS because… the prefects will be able to enjoy themselves more… and [have] fun with their friends and, after all, that’s what RUMPUS is about…, not about making sure we have the best trivia night or the best dodgeball game, but enjoying the experience.”

Even though the planning of events will be the faculty’s responsibility now, there do not seem to be any more dramatic changes this year.

“I don’t think we’re going to bring back any of the costumes or anything [and] I don’t know if there’ll be any changes to the events because, we would like for these groups of faculty members to take ownership in these activities…, so they may change them slightly to add their own flair to them. I don’t think there will be any major… changes this year because… I don’t think [the faculty wants] to take away from the spirit of RUMPUS… Maybe they”ll change a rule or something, but that I don’t know yet.”

While any other changes besides the faculty’s management of events appear unlikely according to Mr. Zazzaro, there still remains the possibility of small changes as a result of the restructuring.
