Freshman Ray Lu competed in the Darlington School Technology Competition on Friday, Nov. 15. The competition was held in the Thatcher Library. He entered in two different categories; Mobile Apps and Robotics. His partner for Robotics was Joseph Qiu, and his partner for Mobils Apps was, Johnny Li. He is also a part of the Robotics team. He has always had a passion for computer science.
“Robotics has always been my expertise and I also like coding,” Lu said. “Those are really helpful for my upcoming careers.”
Lu is already thinking ahead about his careers in the future.
“I am interested in economics,” Lu said. ”But I also believe that computer science can help in all careers.”
Lu is very involved in the robotics here, and used his work to enter into the Darlington Technology Competition.
“I entered robotics because I am on the robotics team,” Lu said. “My robotics project is for a competition, First Technology Challenge (FTC), but this project isn’t specifically for the Tech Fair.”
He and his partner, Johnny Li, have also created an app to help students learn.
“For the mobile app, I wanted to create an app that helps students learn. Me and my partner wanted to come up with the app so that it can remember words and notes for students,” Lu said. ”Lots of apps that I’ve used have been complicated, they are used to translate, or have lots of ads, and some other stuff, which distract you from remembering. So I just wanted to create an app to only remember notes.”
Lu balances his extracurriculars, school and his Tech Fair project by setting up a schedule.
“Learning for school is for during for the school time,” Lu said. “I joined the robotics team after school activity so I worked on my project then, and I worked on my app on the weekends.”
