With the creation of many new shows and the continuation of shows from the past years, ten shows stood out to audiences everywhere. Even many students around the Darlington campus agreed with several shows on the list. All of the student’s favorite shows were highly ranked on the list.
Many of the shows were remakes including Matlock, Shōgun and Avatar: The Last Airbender, to name a few. All of the students interviewed said that the show that they had watched kept them intrigued, anticipating what would happen next. When asked whether or not they finished the show, all three of the people interviewed agreed saying that they had completed all of the seasons.
The top 10 shows of 2024 ranked in order, according to popular viewership are as followed:
Fallout, Shōgun, Baby Reindeer, The Penguin, 3 Body Problem, The Gentlemen, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Presumed Innocent, Agatha All Along and Matlock.
Tristan Leezer, a freshman, tells about the show Shōgun, which features a Japanese cast and is ranked second. Set in Japan in the year 1600, Lord Yoshii Toranaga is fighting for his life as his enemies on the Council of Regents unite against him, when a mysterious European ship is found marooned in a nearby fishing village. The show recently took home four Golden Globes, including the prize for best television series (drama).
“Shōgun is a pretty good show that I have watched on the top ten list. It has a lot of action, which kept me entertained throughout the show,” Leezer said.
Roberta Galvan, sophomore, explains why she thought Baby Reindeer, ranked third, was on the top ten list of shows for 2024. This show stars Jessica Gunning, who won a Golden Globe for her performance. The story follows one hapless young man getting cruelly stalked by a mentally ill woman, who, it turns out, has a history, and a criminal record, for doing so. Moreover, it’s based on a true story.
“I think the show was on the top ten list because of the traumatic scenes,” Galvan said.
Andrew Parsa, freshman, tells his opinion of why he thought that Avatar: The Last Airbender, ranked seventh, was a show that stood out to him. Avatar: The Last Airbender was a remake of an a successful anime film that had come out years before.
“I think it was very well made, and it’s always fun to see a movie with that much action. It stands out because it’s tough to put a movie like that into a live-action show,” Parsa said.
Leezer expands on why he thought that Shōgun was ranked second.
“It was based on a book, so people already knew about it. I think having a show to go along with the book made the show even more popular,” Leezer said. “Also, it was a well-made show.”
When Parsa was asked why he watched Avatar: The Last Airbender, he finalized with, “I watched this show because I watched the original, and I liked it a lot.”
