Students Felipe Selle, Bryn Merrit and Jay Watters share their opinions on this year’s student section. The students talk about how the student section helps the football team and the benefits of being in the student section. The football team is entering a big away game at Bremen and preparing themselves for the playoffs. The student section benefits are team in these big games, especially entering post-season football games.
The student section gets rowdy for the home games and helps motivate the football team. After talking with junior Bryn Merrit, she says, “I know that the team feeds off of our energy. For example, in the Pepperell game, we turned up the energy in the 4th quarter and the football team ended up winning,” Merrit said. When asked about enjoyable parts in the student section, junior Felipe Selle said, “Being able to get in the minds of the other teams head with our chants and cheers. We really feel like the 12th player in the student section during the home games,” Selle said.
“Being able to just cheer on the Darlington Tigers football team is just beautiful, it’s really a work of art,” Selle said. After a conversation with sophomore Jay Watters, he says, “When the student section is on it’s on, but when it is not it is not. I love being there in that atmosphere and watching the games.” Watters said. The football team is entering the post-season playoffs in the coming weeks and needs the student section.
Some parts of the student section are louder than others. The underclassmen are usually in the upper part while the upperclassmen are in the lower part of the student section. “I would say the lower part of the student section is the most fun because there is the most energy down there,” Merrit said. When asked about soon becoming an upperclassman next year in the student section. “Next year we’re going to have some great leadership with the current sophomores and juniors going up a grade, and I feel like were going to get it done in the student section.” Watters said.
When asked about ways the students could improve the section and continue to expand it. “The pushup board trend for when we score touchdowns is a good way for people to engage in the games, Merrit said. We should continue this trend.”
