Eight senior students will be pursuing fine arts majors in college. In the Dodd Banquet Room, the Fine Arts college signing took place on May 2, at 9:45 a.m. The eight students being recognized were: Eloghosa Eke, attending Syracuse University to major in Industrial Design, Arike Akinbolagbe, attending Georgia Tech to major in Industrial Design, Amelia Deupree, attending High Point University to major in High Point Event Planning with a Fashion Design minor, Alli Robinson, attending Pepperdine University to major in Creative Writing, Julia Beauchamp, attending the University of Georgia to major in Journalism, Kathleen Hwang, attending Yale University to major in Visual Arts, Jiahao Luo, attending Boston College to major in Communications and Daniella Argamasilla, attending Sheridan College to major in Art Fundamentals.
“I had a dream of doing something that involved communication and especially after I did communication arts one this year, I decided to major in Communication,” Luo said.
Luo wants to major in communication or something on camera, while Beauchamp wants to work more behind the scenes and major in Journalism. Beauchamp explained that it is important to inform people about events.
“I chose Journalism because I’ve always been interested in the media and telling stories about what’s going on around me. I want to be able to contribute to people’s knowledge about current events,” Beauchamp said.
Akinbolagbe is also attending a college for Fine Arts, but her major is a little different than Luo and Beauchamp’s major. Akinbolagbe will be majoring in Industrial Design which is a combination of art and engineering skills.
“I wanted a way to use my artistic skills to better the world by innovating products. I was inspired by the chance to use my creativity physically and help consumers while doing it,” Akinbolagbe said.
Some people have to search to find what they want to major in, while for other people it comes to them. Luo found his interest in photography in nature.
“Traveling around I saw a lot of cool places, for example, nature, so I kind of fell in love taking pictures of nature and so I want to pursue this in college,” Luo said.
Akinbolagbe’s participation in many activities led to her interest in Industrial Design.
“I am involved in the Arts Council, AP studio art and my job at Artists for Humanity, which all have led to my passion for Industrial Design,” Akinbolagbe said.
