Studying is a big part of school. And what better place to do that, than the library? The library can be used for things such as research, group collaboration and hanging out. Many students utilize this space to their advantage, and others don’t know what the library has to offer them to help with their academic goals.
“I go to the library because it is very quiet, and very calm,” sophomore Kameron Skonieczny said. “It is also a very good place to relax and study.”
Although the space is quiet and a good study space, group collaboration is also encouraged, like projects and even board games.
“We created this space with students thriving academically in mind, so we wanted to have a space that was open and welcoming to everyone,” Librarian Ms. West said. “Kind of in contrast to the student center, but we still want to welcome collaboration and working together.”
The library often has people working on homework, hanging out with friends, reading and even playing games.
“Usually I do my homework and I can collaborate with others working on the same thing,” Skonieczny said. “But if not, then I usually play games such as Call of Duty Mobile with my friends.”
The library has a side to it not many know or think about, not only can you check out books but you can also get help with your research.
“All of our resources are online and available digitally, which is really cool because you don’t have to be in the library to get access to them,” West said. “So through our library website, which is linked on the Darlington website, you can access all of the academic resources we offer.”
Not only can you get help with research, you can also find interesting facts about things you did not know about. With various search engines, the library website has all of your researching needs.
“Just to name a couple, we have a research database called Galileo, we also have a couple for history research such as American History Online,” West said. “Through our WIFI you can also access Newspapers.com and the New York Times, but every thing we have is available digitally, which is helpful if you are not physically in the library.”
Finding websites you can get good information from is easy, but finding websites with accurate and reliable information can be difficult.
“I think because we are in a world where the information is ever-changing and coming at students at a rapid pace, it is important to have resources that are reliable,” West said. “We work really hard to make sure these databases are accurate, up to date and can help serve students research needs as they are looking to find accurate information.”
