One of the most anticipated activities at Darlington is the Winter Musical and it is upon us. Past productions such as One Upon a Mattress and The Sound of Music proved that our program is the real deal. This year’s musical, Little Shop of Horrors, is definitely something to look forward to.

Little Shop of Horrors is a horror/ comedy rock musical and a spoof on B-movies about a kind-hearted but meek and unfortunate worker of a florist shop on Skid Row, who spends his time doing little tasks and dreaming about his co-worker Audrey.

One day, Seymour, the aforementioned worker, discovered a strange and exotic plant, which drew a lot of customers, saved the shop from going bankrupt, and makes Seymour a hero in the eyes of Audrey.

However, the plant has an appetite for blood and flesh, and Seymour has to find a way to deal with this increasingly bloodthirsty plant.

Auditions have been carried out and the cast list has been revealed. Here is the cast list along with some information about the character that they’ll be playing, just to give you an idea of what to expect.

Seymour- the sweet, kind-hearted, insecure and unfortunate florist’s clerk is played by senior Lyons Nida.

Audrey- Seymour’s co-worker and the love of his life. Nice and lovable yet lacks self-worth and education. She is played by senior Julia Warren.

Mr. Mushnik- The cranky owner of the Mushnik’s Skid Row Florists, a failing business. He is Seymour and Audrey’s boss, played by senior Chase Brooks.

Street Urchins- The trio Crystal, Chiffon and Ronette is now made into a Quintet. Played by junior Palesa Molapo, sophomore Brie Bishop, junior Miju Obanikoro, senior Eleanor Goldin and junior Caroline Schrum; these young, hip and steet-smart girls are the only people in the musical who have a grip on reality. They serve as narrators to the audience and are also directly involved in the actions of the musical.

Orin- The tall, handsome, and yet terrifying dentist who is also Audrey’s current boyfriend is played by senior Adam Tarrant.

Audrey II- a plant from another planet with an appetite for human flesh and blood. It’s voice will be provided by senior Winston Gammon and junior Ian Kinney will be providing the puppetry for the plant.
