IT Movie Review

IT by Andy Muschietti was released Sept 8th, 2017. The movie was based off the (‘86) book and the original IT directed by Stephen King which was released in 1990. The movie was released 27 years later because in the story line, IT only comes out every 27 years to feed on kids’ fears. The movie is a mix of horror, drama and comedy with few popup scares and ridiculous puns and comebacks. In my own thoughts, I believed that the movie was breathtaking, and there were many times when I was at the edge of my seat.

A group of young teens, each recovering from their own personal tragedies come together as the “Loser’s Club” and realize Pennywise the Clown embodies their individual fears. The movie focuses on fighting and destroying their fears.

The characters were a bit different from the original series. The appearances and personalities of a few characters were changed but it went well with the plot of the movie. I really liked what they did with each character’s development and how they portrayed their fears in real life situations.

The 2017 version of the movie was much more modern than the 1990’s miniseries. The original 1990’s series was horrendous and not as petrifying as  due to the appalling makeup and build of the character. In the 2017 version, IT was portrayed as a giant compared to the kids. The makeup was spine-chilling and his smile makes you cringe inside at times. I give the film a 5 out of 5.
