Born in Spartanburg, SC and coming to Darlington as a new student from Florence High School in Florence, Alabama, senior Will Reed already knew what his objective for the year was.

“I came to Darlington for the Soccer Academy. In the academy here, I think I will have a better chance of receiving a scholarship for soccer and going D1,” Reed said.

Reed wears the number seven and plays outside back for the academy. He is one of the main defenders on the team.

“Playing outside back is hard; it requires a lot of fitness,” Reed said. “My favorite part is just being able to attack with my winger, make overlapping runs and whip crosses in.”

Reed also enjoys his experience as a boarding student outside of being in the academy.

“It’s different from my previous schools, but, I mean, it’s been pretty good for me so far; the boys in the dorm are really chill. We play games in the hallway and make a lot of jokes, its pretty cool just being around the guys,” Reed said. “Everybody here is friendly.”

Being a boarding student also allows Reed to bond with his teammates.

“The team is really close,” Reed said. “Most people in the academy are boarders, so you do everything with them. We live together and play together. There’s barely any days where we don’t see each other so I’m pretty close with everybody on the team.”
