Madison Vaughn ’17: Testing the Waters

Senior Madison Vaughn is hoping to use her senior year as a chance to break out her comfort zone and try new things.

“I used to be the kind of person that would not talk to people unless they talked to me first, but I’m trying to go up and talk to people and talk more in class,” Vaughn said.

In her four years at Darlington, Vaughn hasn’t been as involved as she wanted to be; however, she hopes to get more involved this year and throughout her college experience.

“I really wish that I wouldn’t have been afraid to try new things that I actually would have been interested in, but because I was a new kid I was like ‘that’s kinda weird and nobody will know who I am,’ so I really wish I would’ve done that,” Vaughn said.

Vaughn is already trying new activities and learning what she likes to do.

“I quit volleyball this year, but because of that, I’ve started running and trying to train for like 5ks and doing that for fun,” Vaughn said. She went on to say, “Last year, Mrs. Wilson ran marathons and that kinda inspired me to do it myself, so I’m hoping that I’ll be prepared enough to do one Sept. 17.”

Vaughn is hoping to use Darlington as an example and be more involved in college.

“I just want to get involved in a lot of stuff,” Vaughn said. “I will try to do something with the newspaper because I really enjoyed it these past two years. I am not much of a sports person, so that’s not going to happen, but maybe some kind of art or creative kind of something. We’ll see.”

If she could give a message to her grade it would be to be yourself.

“Be yourself and don’t try too hard to fit in to the popular crowd. Just do whatever the heck you want to do,” Vaughn said.
