Senior Spotlight: Hailey Lewis

Do you value your successes or failures more? Why?

“I value my failures more because I  can learn from what I failed out, obviously, and I can work on it and make myself better from it.”

Is there something that you feel you were meant to do or be?

“I feel like I was meant to work with children just because I work so well with my sister’s children. They’re always so happy, and I just love playing with them and just doing anything with them makes me happy. One’s about to be four and the other just turned one, so they’re little.”

What drives you to do better at something?

“My family probably drives me to do something better; they try to push me, and I know that I need it. I know if they didn’t push me to do something, I most likely wouldn’t do anything at all; I would just kinda sit there, so it really does help me.”

What do you want most out of life?

“I think I really want happiness and be close with my family. And I’m not really sure what else…yeah, just close family relationship and happiness in life.”

What terrifies you the most? Describe a scenario where you would feel this way.

“Probably putting myself out there; it’s kind of an everyday occasion for me, but just like, talking to people and doing things by myself that kinda pushes me out there. Doing something wrong really terrifies me.”

Do you consider yourself the hero or the villain in your story?

“I would consider myself a hero because I like helping people, especially my friends if they’re having problems, or even helping my family. I don’t really want to do things when I’m with my family, but I will do things around my house if I’m needed.”

How much control do you really have over yourself?

“I’d say I have a lot of control. My family, since I obviously can’t do everything on my own yet, are still there for me. They give me responsibility for doing things, and I know that I need to make sure that I have things to take care of, like a pet and cleaning sometimes.”

Describe a time in your life where you felt pushed to your farthest physical, mental, and/or emotional boundary.

“I’m probably pushed the most when I have to talk about my feelings. I’m very quiet and I usually keep everything inside, so when I have to talk about, like, family issues or something, I just kinda keep myself quiet and don’t talk to anyone, so it’s difficult to actually talk about things.”

Is there something you wished everyone knew about you?

“I kinda wish people, well somewhat knew a little bit more, about my family. It’s just that we kinda have some problems; we’ve worked through problems and had to restart problems, but no one has a perfect family. Everyone kinda has their own thing going on at home.”

Describe an activity that you love. Now describe a quality that you believe you have acquired through that activity. Give a specific example.

“My activity is dance and through that I’ve had more friends, and I have also had to put myself out there while doing things one stage, like solos or something, where my heart is racing and everyone’s watching. I dance at the Dance Centre, which is kinda next to Kroger.”
