Senior Speeches: Nadin Kosedag

Senior+Speeches%3A+Nadin+Kosedag

Hey Everyone! For those who don’t know me, I am a four year day student and you can usually find me in Cooper Dorm or Discipline Committee…. but no one ever wants to see me at DC J I don’t know where I was going to lead my senior speech in the first place but after last Friday, I decided it wasn’t going to be inspirational. My family got news about my mom’s cancer and it seems like she may be starting her last battle against cancer but we are praying that this will be the one where she beats it. Because of this news, I am bit broken, sad and frustrated to say the least so I am going to stay away from the motivational tips. Anyway, everyone in this room is smart enough to have figured out the most popular tips given by seniors; study hard, get involved and don’t judge others from just what you see on the outside. These are great tips but I am not the person to talk to you about it this afternoon. Ok so here we go…

The very last question Discipline Committee always asks when there is a case is “What does Darlington School mean to you?” I think it is my turn to answer this.

Darlington is my second home. It is my golden ticket and my second chance to live a normal teenage life. When things are bad at home, I can come on campus and feel like everything is ok. I can go to the dorms, be surrounded by 30 girls, Mrs. Babb and duty teachers and just forget everything. I can complain about homework, beg Mr. Woods for math help, cry and laugh about a movie and make memories. But I can do even more on this campus. Some of things I have discovered include..

  • Falling in love with history is possible and learning that the sun will rise everyday no matter how much you pray for it not too.
  • Asking for more quizzes is not ok—-your classmates will hate you
  • You can try, as many sports you want even if you think you suck people will give you a chance.
  • Being a tiger expert and showing others our school is a special thing. I’m really sorry guys!
  • #1 Rule – Don’t Panic…I would tell you the rest, but I still don’t know them
  • Hudson can scare you, make you laugh and still put information about chemistry in your head at the same time
  • You will earn some weird nicknames over time.
  • McDurmon is not scary as he seems and he has pretty good dance moves
  • Being bullied by Abraham, Murphy and Max once in a while is not that bad
  • This school will help you make friendships that will last for the rest of your life
  • Allen is a savior – he saved my life
  • Babb is sweetest 2nd mom in the world – I don’t know what I would do without her
  • You might not know it but even the cleaning ladies, cafeteria staff and the guards by the gate all have your back – which I learned while I was shopping at the west Rome Wal-Mart one day: A hearing impaired worker from our cafeteria stopped me and asked me if I was from Darlington and how I was doing through the little messages he wrote on his note pad.
  • Moss will get you get you into college!
  • Ever day is a new day. Today Jalisa made me eat my first ice cream sandwich EVER!

I could go on for hours and hours about this school. Every corner has a memory and every person on campus has left a mark on me that I would never want to replace. The biggest gift this school gives you is love and support. No matter what is going on in your life, they always have your back. I want to thank everyone; my teachers, friends and staff…. anyone I’m not mentioning, for helping me keep my head up and teach me the most valuable life lessons I could ask for. Darlington will always have a special place in my heart.
